REFLECTION OF RESEARCH INTO TRAILERS. From looking at existing trailers it allows me to be able to link ideas of my trailer to other published trailers. There are various editing techniques and shots that I wouldn't of considered before looking at existing trailers, like for example; over the shoulder shots, wide shots and close up shots. Different editing techniques like fade ins, non diegetic sound (music in the background that people in the background cannot hear), cut away and text that can be edited on to the trailer after filming the shots. I got a clearer understanding of the codes and conventions used in not only horror/thriller themed trailers but in trailers with different genres and what audiences expect to see in a trailer of that specific genre. Specifically in the film trailer of 'Suicide Squad' the colours used are dark with poor quality of artificial light reflecting the mysterious mood. As there are 6 antagonists which each turn from the bad but end up being the good, the trailer has each character directly introduced with short clips of each, using black screens identifying them each. I like this technique and maybe will use it in my trailer. By using the names of the characters it encourages the audience to become emotionally invested with them. DETAILED GENRE SPECIFIC RESEARCH INTO TEASER TRAILERS AND POSTERS.detailed research into film posters reflection on film poster analysis Through analysing the film trailers this allowed me to gather a view point on the typical layout and conventions found in various film trailers. I have found and understood that usually a film trailer would last roughly around 1 minute 30 seconds, which also consists of the relatively similar camera shots and editing techniques. I am going to in co-operate these ideas into when I’m creating my own trailer. Backing tracks and music varied depending on the genre of the film which I later found in analysing in genre specific trailers. From analysing genre specific trailers, I got a far clearer understanding for the conventions found in thriller themed movie trailers. I found in particularly the mise en scene and editing techniques were all similar. From looking at these trailers it has given me ideas specifically to do with mise en scene on how to make my trailer as high quality and realistic as possible. detailed research into film magazine front covers
reflection on film magazine front covers The film magazine research has given me an understanding of the codes and conventions found in film magazine cover pages. Different colour schemes can connote different genres. This is vital in my opinion when creating something like a magazine front cover as it immediately tells the audience what genre of magazine it is. An example of this may be; the colour red connoting blood hence proving the genre of horror. I have found that there is a main cover line which usually relates with the colour scheme used and the background cover image, there are usually various other cover lines on the page as well. In all 4 of the magazine I analysed and others I came across nearly all of them had a bold title for the viewer to recognise and acknowledge the publisher. Not only did I find this while i was doing research into film magazines but also in my AS media coursework when looking for music magazines and college magazine front covers, a good example of this is the NME magazine. (for music magazine front covers) After looking at these film magazine front covers I feel confident in creating my own high quality, aesthetically pleasing film magazine front cover. the hypodermic needle theory. The hypodermic needle theory (also known as the hypodermic-syringe model, transmission-belt model, or magic bullet theory) is a model of communications suggesting that an intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver. So in theory i need to consider this throughout the process of creating my media texts. TARGET AUDIENCE.Other questions i could consider when designing my project:
This is an email I sent to just 3 of my class mates before the questionnaire was sent out, this was because I wanted to anonymously send out the questionnaire so I could get more valid fair results. Overall I had 20 people answer my questionnaire after they sent it to more of their friends. I think this was an affective way of getting my results about my target audience. REFLECTION OF AUDIENCE RESEARCH. From looking at the audience research I have found the right age range for my project along with other pieces of information like preferences of what they wouldn't mind seeing in the project. I am going to meet their expectations by closely, repetitively looking at the results from the questionnaire throughout the production. INSPIRATIONAL PRACTITIONERS.FILM CLASSIFICATION RESEARCH.
